WAIVE OFF COMMERCIAL LEASE RENTS for TENANTS during NATIONAL LOCKDOWN period
The UK lockdown measure for Covid-19 have mandated most businesses to close doors directly impacting their revenues, but as Tenants they are still liable to pay rents for their premises under the Commercial Lease agreements. Government should waive off rents for the time the premises are not usable.
Coronavirus Act 2020 does not take into consideration that business shutdown is not by choice but mandated by the national lockdown, merely deferring rents is not going to help cover the rental costs for the leased premises, infact the rent pile up has impacted the long term viability of the businesses. Govt. should waive off rents for the time the premises are not usable due to shutdown. Landlords should not charge rent for this period and renegotiate leases if business is no longer viable.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Suspending payments for rent is a matter for individual landlords, and not the UK Government or Parliament. The Government has introduced emergency legislation to suspend new evictions from social or private rented accommodation while this national emergency is taking place: www.gov.uk/government/news/complete-ban-on-evictions-and-additional-protection-for-renters
The Government's advice to tenants states that tenants should continue to pay rent and abide by all other terms of their tenancy agreement to the best of their ability, and that tenants who are unable to do so should speak to their landlord at the earliest opportunity: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/876500/Consolidated_Landlord_and_Tenant_Guidance_COVID_and_the_PRS_v4.2.pdf
