Petition Action

Stop the increase of cost & operational duration of the daily Congestion Charge.

Petition Details

We object to the Mayor of London’s 30% increase in cost of the daily Congestion Charge. We want determined action to improve air quality, protect people's health and tackle climate change as we emerge from the corona virus crisis, but this should be a collective responsibility, not a personal cost.

Additional Information

Forcing the general public back on to London’s already packed transport network, where social distancing is near impossible is not appropriate at this crucial time.

We invite government to review the changes to London’s Congestion Charge at this critical time.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the issue you raise is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. This is the responsibility of the London Assembly.
You can petition the London Assembly directly: www.london.gov.uk/about-us/london-assembly/petitions

The Government has agreed a package consisting of a mixture of grants and loans based upon a series of conditions agreed by the mayor, including the reinstatement of the congestion charge: www.gov.uk/government/news/government-grants-transport-for-london-funding-package

You could start a petition calling on the Government to reimburse people, or particular groups of people, for the cost of the congestion charge, if that is what you want to happen. You could also start a petition calling on the Government to seek to revise the terms of its support for Transport for London, so that this is not conditional on the reinstatement of the congestion charge.
