Petition Action

Cancel changes to the Congestion charge and over 60s Oystercard changes

Petition Details

The new proposal impacts unfairly on people who need to drive into London particularly shift workers, and there is no viable option to use public transport at this time

Additional Information

The proposed cost and timing changes to the congestion charge are clearly designed to widen the net and rake in more money to bale out TFL, I understand that the NHS and care workers are exempt from these changes but as a key worker myself who has worked shifts throughout this pandemic I think these increased charges are totally unacceptable

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the issue you raise is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. This is the responsibility of the London Assembly.
You can petition the London Assembly directly: www.london.gov.uk/about-us/london-assembly/petitions

The Government has agreed a package consisting of a mixture of grants and loans based upon a series of conditions agreed by the mayor, including the reinstatement of the congestion charge: www.gov.uk/government/news/government-grants-transport-for-london-funding-package

You could start a petition calling on the Government to reimburse people, or particular groups of people, for the cost of the congestion charge, if that is what you want to happen. You could also start a petition calling on the Government to seek to revise the terms of its support for Transport for London, so that this is not conditional on the reinstatement of the congestion charge.
