OVERCOME HOMELESSNESS DURING COVID19 WITH NEW HOUSING LEGISLATION: HOUSING FIRST
During covid19 the government has found a solution that overcomes homelessness, provide people with accommodation. The Housing First Model gives people a home first preventing homelessness, with wrap around support. Housing First has proven successful in other countries and is deemed best practice.
I want the government to change housing legislation making it compulsory when a person/ family become homeless they are immediately given a home with local councils given funding, powers to implement viable housing solutions, ie; increasing Housing First volumes in new builds, laws for abandoned buildings to be renovated into housing, policies to reduce rents in the private sector ect. As a progressive country the government needs to act now. Providing everyone with a home is the way forward.
