Create a ‘National Resilience Day’ Bank Holiday in October.
The new National Resilience Day bank holiday would serve to commemorate the loved ones we lost due to Covid-19 and honour the efforts of front-line workers who kept us safe during the height of the pandemic. It would also bring much needed support to tourism, hospitality and retail businesses.
The National Resilience Day Holiday would remind us that we need to remain alert to the permanent risk of disaster and disease. A recent report from the CEBR states that retail sales rise by 15% over a bank holiday, hospitality and catering by 20%. The ‘pent up’ demand resulting from current Covid-19 restrictions would amplify the effect.
The addition of a new and bring the UK a little closer to other G8 countries in terms of the number of annual holidays (we have 8 whilst the average is 12)
