Petition Action

Ensure trips to Castles are not used as a valid methods to test eyesight

Petition Details

Publically state that driving to remote castles do not qualify as an 'eye test'

Additional Information

We would like the government to confirm that their belief that eye examinations by an ophthalmologist (medical doctor), optometrist, or orthoptist are the only valid way to determine your eyesight and not by driving your car to local tourist destinations regardless of how remote they are

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Driving when knowingly suffering from a medical or physical condition that significantly and dangerously impairs the offender's driving skills, such as impaired eyesight, is already likely to be treated as dangerous driving. Rules relating to dangerous driving have not been affected by regulations and restrictions relating to coronavirus.

Decisions on whether to arrest and prosecute alleged offenders is a matter for local police forces and the Crown Prosecution Service, not the UK Government or Parliament.
