Make appointments of special advisers subject to parliamentary approval
It’s become clear recently how influential these unelected officials can be. As such it seems sensible for appointment of these individuals who are paid from public funds to be subject to parliamentary approval, rather than the present system where the executive may hire/fire who they wish.
All appointments of special advisors to be subject to parliamentary approval before commencement, via the relevant departmental select committee.
It would ensure transparency.
