Scrap MPs £10k additional expense allowance to work from home due to Covid-19
Government to review the conduct of the IPSA & scrap MPs' £10k additional expense allowance & review pay of £82,000 plus up to £26,000 expenses p.a. Particularly when many lives are being lost, front line healthcare workers struggle for basic equipment
& the financial impact to the general public
The general public must have a say in any increases of MPs Salaries & allowances. Currently the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority is out of touch with public opinion. The additional £10,000 expense allowance to enable MP's to set up home working is an insult when many people have had to make the switch to working from home without aid or assistance. Many are facing losing their jobs, taking pay cuts, living/forced into poverty, businesses closing & self-employed, low earners hit hard
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for setting MPs' pay. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
You can find out more about IPSA here: www.theipsa.org.uk/about-us/
You could start a petition calling for Parliament to abolish IPSA and return to setting their own pay and expenses, if that's what you'd like to see happen
