Remind the Equalities Minister that her role is to REDUCE discrimination.
Encourage the minister to:
- re-read the 2015 report on Transgender equality by the Women and Equalities Select Committee, and act on it.
- understand the existing legislation
- be guided by qualified experts, rather than by anti-trans activists
- act to reduce discrimination, not increase it
In 2015, the Women and Equalities Select Committee reported that "High levels of transphobia are experienced by individuals on a daily basis (including in the provision of public services)—with serious results."
In April 2020, Ms Truss set out plans that contradict the committee's recommendations, and would make matters worse, such as:
- excluding trans people from public places,
- increasing the complexity of the gender recognition process
- denying trans people access to medical care
