Petition Action

Stop insurance companies taking advantage of drivers and regulate them properly

Petition Details

We need the insurance companies to be regulated and provide proof and facts for why they are quoting what they do! To stop taking advantage of drivers and avoiding paying out genuine claims when we have paid ridiculous premiums! Insurance should be tiered and fair and not a profit making exercise

Additional Information

More often than not we are penalised for living in certain areas, for driving certain cars or for being a certain age. Insurance is a legal requirement and insurance companies are using this legal requirement to profit off of the vulnerable. Insurance companies should have capped quotes and be regulated to stop them refusing to pay out! We pay our premiums by law why should they be able to avoid paying out? Prices always on the increase and no claims bonuses appear to account for nothing

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The insurance industry is already regulated, by the Financial Conduct Authority. You can find information about complaints here: www.fca.org.uk/consumers/how-complain

Insurance companies are private businesses and are not required to operate on a no-profit basis.

If you have complained to an individual company and are not satisfied with their response the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help: www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, if you would like the Government to create a state-backed car insurance scheme, you could start a petition calling for that the be set up.
