Petition Action

Partially refund tuition fees for students affected by the lockdown

Petition Details

Current students and those beginning their courses in 2020 should have part of their tuition fee refunded or their student debt reduced. This should be funded by parliament (not by universities) because parliament implemented the lockdown, which has degraded the quality of education for students.

Additional Information

Most universities closed parts of their facilities and began online distance learning in March. This has significant consequences for the preparation of students for assessments and the format of the exams they will take. Most students are missing out on face-to-face teaching, which is likely to continue in the next academic year. Since universities are unable to provide the education that their students enrolled for in entirety, it would be unfair for those students to pay the full cost.
