Petition Action

Allow the congestion charge to be free for key workers going to and from work.

Petition Details

I would like to the government to discuss the way they have re introduced the congestion charge.

Additional Information

I want them to re think this idea as i think its unjust after saying that you should avoid public transport that key workers like NHS staff are following the rules and having to pay £15 a day just to get to work by car i think they should allow key workers to not have to pay these fees simply by traveling to work to save lives. I understand they need to try and get the UK economy going again but there are other ways in doing so without punishing key workers by making them pay for going to work.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the issue you raise is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. This is the responsibility of the London Assembly. You can petition the London Assembly directly: www.london.gov.uk/about-us/london-assembly/petitions

The Government has agreed a package consisting of a mixture of grants and loans based upon a series of conditions agreed by the mayor, including the reinstatement of the congestion charge: www.gov.uk/government/news/government-grants-transport-for-london-funding-package

You could start a petition calling on the Government to reimburse people, or particular groups of people, for the cost of the congestion charge, if that is what you want to happen. You could also start a petition calling on the Government to seek to revise the terms of its support for Transport for London, so that this is not conditional on the reinstatement of the congestion charge.

We have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:

During lock-down the Government should pay for all NHS staff's travel expenses.
