Consider recognising Taiwan as a sovereign nation to protect Hongkongers

Petition Details

The FCO has naïvely believed that Communist China would respect the autonomous status of Hong Kong. Now, China is growing increasingly coercive and it has commenced an oppressive, calculated ingestion of the former British colony.
There is a realistic way to stop it...

Additional Information

China's soft spot is its fretfulness about Taiwanese sovereignty. If major countries, like the UK, were to consider recognising Taiwan (which mainland China considers to be a 'rebel province'), it would cause China to reconsider disregarding its promise of Hong Kongese autonomy. By burying its head in the sand, the West is facilitating China's global dash for power. British discussions with Taiwan could be a wake-up call for Xi Jinping and Western leaders alike.
