Honour the commitment not to lower food standards in negotiating trade deals
Honour the commitments made during the Brexit debate not to lower the UK's high standards for food safety and animal welfare, for example by allowing chlorinated chicken or hormone-fed beef in order to secure trade deals with other countries, notably the United States of America.
I am concerned that pressure will be brought on the UK to accept lower food standards as part of trade negotiations.
I am worried that this could result in good that is not as safe, animal welfare standards being lowered and unfair competition for domestic good producers.
Recent failures by Government spokespeople to confirm the earlier commitments to these principles suggests that they are back on the negotiating table.
