Petition Action

Include British Imperialism, Colonialism and the Slave Trade in the curriculum.

Petition Details

Currently, the realities and consequences of British imperialism and colonialism, including the slave trade, are not a statutory part of the national curriculum. Only by understanding and acknowledging our past can we address the racial injustice and inequality present in our country today.

Additional Information

The glorification of our imperialist past has instilled a more nationalistic and racist narrative to our national identity. This is preventing an honest and open discussion about white privilege and the oppression and exploitation of BAME communities and how this still shapes our society today.

I ask this government to provide an uncensored picture of our nation's history to develop a more aware, educated and compassionate generation of young people and build the foundation for a better future.
