Replace the Statue of Edward Colston with one of Samuel Sharpe.
Recent protests against police systemic racism in the UK catalysed by the protest in the USA have resulted in the demolition of the statue of Edward Colston.
It is important that we remember our history but we should commemorate heros like Samuel Sharpe who initiated the Bapist War slave revolt.
Samuel Sharpe was a slave and Baptist minister in the then Plantocracy of Jamaica. He organised peaceful protests which led to the Bapist war.
We must not erase history or in any way try to blunt it to feign historic innocence or virtuosity, but we must take action to ensure that those who should be commemorated are. We can not take pride for our ancestors abolishing slavery whilst at the same time maintaining statues to honour the slaver traders and owners themselves.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Decisions about individual historical monuments, statues, plaques and street names are a matter for the local authority in which they are located and private landowners, not the UK Government or Parliament.
If you want to raise concerns about a particular historical monument or statue you should contact your local authority about this.
The Local Government Association has published an advice note to help councils work to ensure all sections of the community feel heard by decision-makers and each other: www.local.gov.uk/topics/community-safety/statues
We have published the following petitions, which you might like to sign:
