Restrict circumstances when police can conduct strip searches
The Government should reform the rules allowing strip searches so that these cannot be conducted on the spot, can be only be conducted if a suspect is under arrest, and can only take place in the presence of a companion.
Currently police are able to conduct strip searches outside of police stations, and without arresting a suspect. These searches can be embarrassing and distressing for the people who are searched, and can damage their and the public’s view of the police.
