Petition Action

Create an advisory board to review public statues and decide on their removal

Petition Details

Create a panel, made up of historians and experts from different socio-economic backgrounds and from different ethnic backgrounds to review statues of controversial figures that are in public display. This panel should have the power to remove a statue if a consensus is reached.

Additional Information

The Black Lives Matter movement is beginning to shine a light on the hidden realities of British history. With the removal of the Edward Colston statue by protestors in Bristol, an important dialogue needs to be opened. I personally support the statue coming down, but disagree with the manner. There are statues of people in this country that deserve to be removed. I feel the best way to decide which statues deserve to be brought down is best lead by experts, not the whims of protestors.
