Petition Action

Calling Parliament to abolish IPSA & return to setting their own pay & expenses

Petition Details

Abolish IPSA. The public should have a say in any increase such as MPs' £10k additional expense allowance & review pay of £82,000 plus up to £26,000 expenses p.a. particularly when many lives are being lost, front line workers struggle for basic equipment & the financial impact to the general public

Additional Information

The general public must have a say in any increases of MPs salaries & allowances. Currently the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority is out of touch with public opinion. The additional £10,000 expense allowance to enable MPs to set up home working is an insult when many people have had to make the switch to working from home without aid or assistance. Many are facing losing their jobs, taking pay cuts, living/forced into poverty, businesses closing & self-employed, low earners hit hard

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure whether you want the public to have a say on MPs' wages and office expenses or whether you want MPs themselves to set their own pay and office expenses.

The Speaker of the House of Commons made a statement about the additional £10,000 office allowance. You can read that here:
