Review Management of Patients on Aspirin for Stroke Prevention

Additional Information

More effective protection against stroke for patients with atrial fibrillation, by SPAF Academy in partnership with the Atrial Fibrillation Association (AFA) and Arrhythmia Alliance (AA)

- Every year in the UK 110,000 people suffer a stroke; 15% as a result of atrial fibrillation (AF).
- Those with AF are five times more likely to have a stroke than non-AF patients.
- AF-related strokes are more likely to be severe, disabling and fatal compared with those caused by other factors.
- Oral anticoagulation is about three times more effective than aspirin in preventing AF-related stroke; the risk of major bleeding is no different between the two, particularly in the elderly.

This petition calls for
All patients on aspirin for AF-related stroke prevention to have their management reviewed by their Doctor as a matter of priority
