Lower the voting age to 16 for mayoral elections and London Assembly
16 and 17 year olds are currently not allowed to vote in any UK elections in England, but this must change. Allowing 16 and 17 year olds to vote in mayoral elections would mean we can be part of the democratic processes that our country is built on, and we can have a say in how our cities are run.
16 and 17 year olds would be able to properly get involved in politics, and hold parties to account in terms of policies that matter most to us.
I am a 16 year old member of the Green Party of England and Wales, but I could not vote for them in the 2019 General Election, and will not be able to in the 2021 London Mayoral Election unless there is change. There are many teens like me who are already politically involved, and many more who would follow politics more if they could vote and be heard.
