Petition Action

Keep Ayrshires statues

Petition Details

Our statues are part of our towns and villages, they should stay!
I would like the government to leave our statues alone and help keep them safe from these illegal protesters who are vandalising them, and trying to remove them.

Additional Information

Illegal protesters are destroying statues and monuments which are part of our Brit/Scot history.
We do not want them removed or damaged in anyway!

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about individual historical monuments, statues, plaques and street names are a matter for the local authority in which they are located and private landowners, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you want to raise concerns about a particular historical monument or statue you should contact your local authority about this.

The Local Government Association has published an advice note to help councils work to ensure all sections of the community feel heard by decision-makers and each other: www.local.gov.uk/topics/community-safety/statues

We have published the following petitions, which you might like to sign:

Protect all monuments and statues from being taken down: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/325814

Make it a specific offence to desecrate national flags, symbols and monuments: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/325545

Require referendums on the removal of historically significant statues: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/326361
