Ban single use plastic in supermarket groceries.
It is unacceptable to have to put plastic straight into the bin after a purchase of fresh vegetables and fruit. They either need to be packaged in recyclable materials or not at all. Reduce landfill and incentivise research into greener alternatives to single use plastic.
Local fruit and veg sellers do not feel the need to wrap anything in plastic, however their local, often organic produce is not always a cost effective option for less affluent families, who must purchase the plastic wrapped options in tbe supermarket for their five a day or go without. Encourage healthy eating and reduce landfill by banning the shrink wrapped cucumbers, the packets of tomatoes and netted oranges.
