Save Britain's Statues - the government must protect our public statues
Our statues are an important part of the record of our national history.
Most historical figures will have done some things we would not support today - and this will be true across all countries and societies - because human values have evolved over time.
But we have many achievements as well.
We therefore do not wish to see our history expunged in this way, and we do not agree with this attempt to make history a 'safe space'
Any choice of statues for public spaces should be made by proper democratic consultation of all citizens, and not made instead by mob rule or narrow groups
As London is the nation's capital and contains statues of important national figures, national opinion should decide on public statues in London, and it should not be decided at the whim of the London Mayor
