Businesses to repay furlough if subsequently making redundancies

Petition Details

To lessen the impact the coronavirus would have on business and to protect jobs, the UK government introduced the job retention scheme. This was used to secure UK jobs for the future and aid in an economic bounce back.

Additional Information

It now appears many businesses have used the scheme and pandemic, to make sweeping changes to their business structures, causing mass redundancies. This will effect the UK economy’s ability to bounce back from the unprecedented slump caused by the pandemic. The less jobs there are, the less money people have to spend resulting in fewer sales and a further shrinking economy. Any business who have made a claim under the furlough arrangements and then made redundancies should repay these monies.
