Replace the statues of slave owners with solar panels
Statues of slave owners should be torn down and replaced with solar panels or other forms of sustainable energy production. Perhaps plaques could be erected also explaining why these statues where torn down.
The celebration of slave ownership and systemic racism should have no place in this country - even if these people where rich and powerful in other significant ways. The celebration of slave ownership and systemic racism also should have no place in this country if the prime minister and his cabinet claims to support the Black Lives Matter movement. The erection of solar panels in their place would assist battling the climate emergency (an issue that the UK has done very little against).

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Decisions about individual historical monuments, statues, plaques and street names are a matter for the local authority in which they are located and private landowners, not the UK Government or Parliament.
If you want to raise concerns about a particular historical monument or statue you should contact your local authority about this.
The Local Government Association has published an advice note to help councils work to ensure all sections of the community feel heard by decision-makers and each other: www.local.gov.uk/topics/community-safety/statues
