Meet The Sustainable Energy Targets
Currently in the UK, less than 5% of our energy is generated by using sustainable energy resources. The target, set by the government, for 2020 is to have over 15% of our energy coming from renewable, environmentally friendly resources. Not only is this target incredibly low (in comparison to other EU countries, Sweden is aiming for 49%) but it seems unachievable as the increase in percentage of energy generated in the UK by sustainable resources is only 4.6% since 2005. If it takes the government 7 years to increase the usage of renewables by less than 5%, then we will never reach this target. My petition aims to increase the pressure on the government, to ensure the targets are at least met, and hopefully increased.
