Petition Action

Stop the use of white and black to describe ethnicity

Petition Details

To make it law that no one is described as white or black.
These are divisive , historical and outdated terms used to describe ethnicity that divide and offend communities and reinforce racism.
My family are mixed heritage and I feel hurt and saddened for us.

Additional Information

Today in the United Kingdom communities are suffering from division and indecision and the knife edge of waiting for change..

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government is not responsible for determining how ethnic minorities are referred to.

The Government's guidance on writing about ethnicity already states that it does not use BAME or BME for a number of reasons: www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/style-guide/writing-about-ethnicity
