Petition Action

Introduce self-identification for transgender people

Petition Details

Introduce self-identification for transgender people to make the process of legally changing their gender shorter/easier in the UK by removing the need for a panel of doctors to certify a person's transition. People should be able to make a declaration to a judge to attest their change of gender.

Additional Information

This would remove the requirement for a medicalised transition which is a great burden for many trans people. Retracting these plans sends a message of hostility to transgender people from the government, and will increase hostility overall. Trans people could die as a result of the change in the law.
