Reverse the Decision to Scrap the Gender Recognition Act Consultation Results
The government held a public consultation regarding the Gender Recognition Act.The results were overwhelmingly in favour of measures that would improve the lives of trans people such as self-ID. Plans were drawn up to put them into law but have now been scrapped. We ask for this to be reconsidered.
The government have decided to scrap the results of the consultation because they believe the results were "skewed by an avalanche of responses generated by trans rights groups” and is instead said to be preparing to introduce new laws to enforce single sex spaces, such as public lavatories, and to limit access to transgender care. This effectively means acting against the needs transgender individuals, who already are at a greater risk of experiencing hate crimes, discrimination and self-harm.
