Petition Action

Remove the statue of Winston Churchill.

Petition Details

I would like the parliament to remove the statue. Either into a museum with a plaque to explain why it is removed. As we can not sensor history. However with the chance in Zeitgeist it is no longer appropriate to have a statue of a racist person.

Additional Information

Winston Churchill has helped greatly in the second world war. UK has been very proud his war efforts. However He was racist. (Welsh miners) We has much more to be proud of. Despite the terror attacks England has been resilient and an inspiration. We are proud of the NHS and for this country for being united. With all efforts of key workers. During covid19. We can continue to show how progressive we can be. It does not represent the country well. And removing it will show a needed change.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about individual historical monuments, statues, plaques and street names are a matter for the local authority in which they are located and private landowners, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you want to raise concerns about a particular historical monument or statue you should contact your local authority about this.

The Local Government Association has published an advice note to help councils work to ensure all sections of the community feel heard by decision-makers and each other: www.local.gov.uk/topics/community-safety/statues
