Petition Action

Legally require that job applicant names are removed from applications form.

Petition Details

We want ‘Name Blind’ recruitment to be a legal requirement for all private and public companies for all job roles. The aim is to reduce any unconscious bias of applicants on the basis of ethnicity or gender at the initial stages of the recruitment and selection process.

Additional Information

Research by the UK government published in 2009 found that employers were much more likely to offer interviews to candidates with white-sounding names than those with non-white-sounding ones, even though their applications were identical. The name of a job applicant does not serve any purpose and does not hold relevance to the applicants suitability to be shortlisted for any job position.
