Make 1st August a Bank holiday, the official day the enslaved were freed In UK
We ask for Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Members of Parliament to advocate for a national Bank Holiday (August 1st), that commemorates the day enslaved Africans became free in the United Kingdom and across the British Empire.
Making the 1st August an official bank holiday is especially relevant in this moment in history.
This day can be used to reflect on all the changes we still need to make to create a more fair and equal society in the U.K. By recognising the very day the enslaved Africans were declared freed across the British Empire we can begin the steps to stand united.
