Rescind our power to veto in the UN Security Council. It is undemocratic.
The United Nations Security Council has several significant problems but the most significant is the right to veto. Reform the right to veto held by the UK in the UN security council. Too often, atrocities are not addressed because of the right of members to intervene.
The UK is also the fifth-largest contributor to the UN's peacekeeping budget, paying for 6.68% of $7bn a year and yet our tax money is not used to prevent any of the humanitarian disasters that are going on in the world today. As recently as December 2019, we have seen the power of the veto block humanitarian aid access to Syria. This is appalling and we the British people, do not want to be apart of any institutional BODY that facilitates any form of injustice on this earth.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We understand you are concerned about how the UN Security Council operates, but it's not clear if you want the UK Government to give up its veto, seek reform of the UN so that no member has a veto, or withdraw from the UN entirely.
Any changes to how the UN operates would be a matter for the UN, but we could accept a petition requesting that the UK Government seeks to secure any of the above actions, but it would need to be clear what action you want the Government to take.
