Require common allergen labelling on cosmetics in line with food labelling
Food labelling in the UK has strict guidance about the allergens within produce. However, cosmetic products do not. When an allergen is applied to the skin it can have the same adverse reactions as ingestion. Therefore, cosmetic products must be labelled in line with food labelling law immediately.
Numerous resources such as WebMD and anaphylaxis.org.uk highlight the dangers of allergy sufferers using cosmetics containing allergenic substances, alongside various medical journals such as the European annals of allergy and clinical immunology.
My wife has Wheat Dependant Exercise Induced Anaphylaxis (WDEIA) and a gluten intolerance. However, exposures to cosmetics including wheat cause the same reactions as ingestion.
