Prevent the drilling of oil and gas on the Isle of Wight
The government should intervene to prevent the drilling of oil or gas on the Isle of Wight. Proposed plans would see exploratory wells dug with the potential for further drilling.
Fracking/oil & gas drilling on the Island would be economically disastrous for the “holiday Isle” as the suggested sites are areas that welcome a high volume of tourists. Furthermore, the decision to further exploit natural gas & oil runs counter to the government’s position in facing climate change. Put simply, our government should not stand for further fossil fuel extraction and should instead seek to find alternative sources of energy.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This is a planning decision for the local council.
You could start a petition calling for the Government to ban oil and gas exploration in the UK, or in specific circumsatances (such as in internationally recognised biospheres) if that's what you'd like to see happen.
