Make Windrush Day a Commemorative Day in the UK
At present we have Windrush Day as a day of celebration in the UK. This day must be enhanced to a Commemorative Day, with equal status to other days which marks significant events in British History.
Windrush Day as a Commemorative Day will mark the integral contributions black people has given to the uk, specifically as our Government erroneously deported many of these individuals in 2018. This caused ultimate upheaval to the citizens who helped build the UK.
A Commemorative Day will enable our children to have a more comprehensive understanding of British History and how Afro Caribbean people have richly contributed to this.
A day of celebration as it currently stands, is not enough.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise.
There is no official designation of a commemorative day made by the UK Government or Parliament. You could sign and share an exisitng petition on making Windrush Day a bank holiday, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
