Reduce council tax by investing in councils and in turn tackling homelessness
Thousands of individuals in full time employment are struggling to make ends meet, council tax and bedroom tax has made renting impossible for single adults in the UK.
I.e the cost of rent, plus energy and council tax can add up to 3/4 of a single persons monthly income.
Council budgets are being heavily squeezed. By 2019–20, the Local Government Association predicts councils will face a £5.8 billion funding gap due to cuts in central government funding and the rising costs of an ageing population. This puts even more pressure on them to collect all the tax they’re owed. In 2016–17 councils collected 97.2% of what was owed, and recovered £627 million of arrears. These high collection rates mean councils routinely pursuing people who often struggle to pay.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about the cost of council tax, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to abolish council tax and provide all local authority funding directly, if that is what you want to happen.
