Introduce a Body Shaming Act
I want the Government to introduce an act that protects individuals from bullying and discrimination regarding aspects of their body or due to their size. The protected body aspects should include; weight, body hair, spots/acne, scars, stretch marks, birthmarks and plastic/cosmetic surgery.
According to an online survey produced by the Mental Health Foundation and YouGov in March 2019, out of the 5623 participants, varying from adults to children; 20% felt shame over their body, 34% felt down or low and 19% felt disgusted. The main factor for these statistics is how body image is portrayed in the media. But body shaming online and in person is another factor which has been damanging people’s mental health for years leading to eating disorders, self harming and suicide.
