Petition Action

Allow fathers to be in into ultrasound scans

Petition Details

Fathers to be of their unborn babies should be allowed into ultrasound scans with their partners. The NHS only provide 2 scans during pregnancy; 12 weeks and 20 weeks. Many fathers would not have seen their babies at all in the scan during the whole pregnancy! This is needs to be changed!

Additional Information

Women need the support from their partners. There are women who have had miscarriages will have the heartbreaking news finding out at their scan on their own with no support from their partners as they aren’t allowed to be there, this is unjust and heartbreaking. 2 people from the same household should be allowed to attend scans. Staff in hospitals wear full PPE. Anyone entering hospitals have to now wear masks and keep a distance. Shopping trips are far more risky than just 2 scans on 9 months

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about who can attend scans are a matter for the NHS, not the UK Government or House of Commons.

On 5 June, the NHS’s suspension of hospital visiting was lifted. This means that visiting is now subject to local discretion by trusts and other NHS bodies. You should check with your maternity team and sonography unit for their policy on visitors attending antenatal appointments, including scans.
