Make it mandatory for local councils in England to have a weapons bin
Knife and gun crime have risen. Communities are frightened, young people are being killed and emergency workers risk the danger of facing these weapons. The Government must make it a legal requirement for local councils to have weapons bins, so weapons can be handed in and disposed of safely.
Office for National Statistic (ONS) figures show knife crime has risen in England & Wales by 7% from 2018. This is the highest level since knife crime data was first collated (BBC: Knife crime in England and Wales rises to record high, ONS figures show, 23/04/20). Gun crime has also risen by 4% in one year with over 9,700 gun crimes being committed in the UK, according to the ONS. (Sky News: Gun crime rises in UK in last year with more than 9,700 cases reported, 14/02/20).
