UK government to include UK Social Workers in covid pay rise list July 2020
Social workers across the profession have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic safeguarding vulnerable children, adults and those suffering with mental health conditions when isolating. We have supported emotionally and practically to ensure safety & we don't deserve to be forgotten.
We need the government to debate this matter in parliament and consider the strenuous and often forgotten about work of social workers. There is consistent talk of substance misuse, mental health, domestic violence, self harm and abuse increasing during this period - Social Workers are the professionals that tackle these issues in families or individually on a daily basis and work to keep people together. We love our work but are continuously criticised & forgotten about. Things have to change!

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The pay and conditions of social workers is a matter for individual local authorities, not the UK Government or Parliament.
You could start a petition calling for the Government to provide funding to local authorities for the purpose of increasing the pay of social workers in their area, if that is something you'd like to happen.
