Prevent calorie information from being published on Children’s menus
The ‘tacking obesity‘ strategies published on the 27th July encourage disordered eating behaviour and incentivise children to see food in terms of numbers. This must be prevented if the Mental and physical health of children is to be promoted.
The new plans to publish calories on menu’s to tackle childhood obesity has the potential to promote disordered eating habits in children. If from an early age, children view food in terms of numbers and feel as it certain items are ‘demonised’, they May face eating disorders in further adulthood. This should not be a risk we are willing to take and as such, Young children should not be Exposed to such blatant calorie information.
