Petition Action

Do not enforce that restaurants put calorie labels on menus.

Petition Details

The new law meaning restaurants with over 250 employees will have to put calorie labels on their menus will be incredibly damaging for anyone suffering with and trying to recover from an eating disorder. Instead of this, there are many other ways to combat obesity, including increased education.

Additional Information

While obesity in the UK is a very prevalent problem, so are eating disorders. Putting these labels on menus will create a lot of issues for people trying to recover. In addition, a significant proportion of those struggling with obesity have issues with binge eating, and this needs a more nuanced approach to tackle. If this bill is brought in, it will significantly damage a lot of people’s eating disorder recovery, making it incredibly hard to eat out and enjoy everyday life.
