Create more teachers to teach the Arts in schools.
Between 2010 and 2018 the number of arts teachers has decreased in England’s secondary schools.
Schools need more Arts teachers, not less. This can change by creating a bursary for drama teacher training. There needs to be more incentives to encourage people to train and teach the arts in schools.
I am worried and concerned that children’s access to the Arts is declining.
Our research has shown that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find teachers who are trained to teach music, drama, dance, DT and art and design.
Therefore there needs to be more arts teachers, especially when children go back to schools in September. Lockdown has exacerbated educational inequality, especially for students who come from less economically privileged backgrounds and the arts can close that gap.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The Government is not directly responsible for employing arts teachers, this is a matter for individual schools.
You could start a petition calling on the Government to provide bursaries to people who study to become arts teachers, or to provide additional funding to support arts education in schools, which include employing additional arts teachers.
