Stop calories from being displayed on menus
The government should not make calorie counts on menus mandatory in all chain restaurants, takeaways, and cafés with over 250 employees as proposed in a new attempt to lower levels of obesity in the UK.
There is little to no evidence that displaying calories on menus will decrease levels of obesity.
The proposed legislation is likely to increase levels of disorderd eating in the UK, where an estimated 1.25 million people already have eating disorders. Eating disorders are amongst the most deadly mental illnesses.
This will not "empower adults and children to live healthier lives", but on the contrary make problem of eating disorders worse.
