Give the RCVS powers to set fees for veterinary services
The Government should give the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons jurisdiction over the fees charged by private practices, so that these can be capped at a fair rate.
As many pet owners do not have insurance the fees charged by private practices can put owners into financial difficulty or may even prevent them seeking the help that their pets desperately need, and may lead to pets being neglected or destroyed. No pet should be left in pain due to the owners being worried that they cannot afford treatment.
