Petition Action

Enact legislation to make ‘Killing a Police Officer’ a specific offence

Petition Details

A specific homicide offence should be enacted, carrying the same penalty as murder but without the need for premeditation. Along the lines of,

‘Causing the death of a police officer, whilst committing or attempting to commit a crime, or while attempting to evade lawful arrest or questioning.

Additional Information

Many ordinary people put their lives on the line every time they go to work in order to protect the public. They deserve to be adequately protected should they tragically lose their lives while doing so.

Current legislation is not sufficient! The need to prove premeditation for murder can prevent those responsible from being adequately punished. Anyone who kills a police officer, in the course of committing crime shows a blatant disregard for life, and a manslaughter charge is SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH
