Petition Action

Reduce all single track country lanes from 60mph to 30 mph

Petition Details

I live in a beautiful area of West Sussex up a very narrow windy country lane. At the bottom of our lane it say on one side single track lane with some passing places. Then on the other side we have a D restricted sign allowing people to drive 60mph

Additional Information

As this is a single track through Road, 60 mph is truly dangerous and we have had many accidents because of it which have been classed as knock for knock. This is obviously extremely unfair for the residents who drive a sensible 25-30 mph on this lane

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about local speed limits are a matter for your local authority, not the Government or House of Commons. You can request a speed limit change here: www.gov.uk/request-speed-limit-change

The Government does set national speed limits, and you could start a petition calling on the Government to reduce the national speed limit for single carriageways, which is currently 60mph for most vehicles, to 30mph.
