Reduce VAT to 5% for the retail sector " to help save our high street".

We would ask whether a similar reduction in VAT to 5% could be put forward to aid retailers such as ourselves, to help keep our high street going and save jobs.

Additional Information

We are a small, family retail business who have proudly served Durham City for 10 years. Over the past few months, we have witnessed our lovely high street in Durham transform from a busy & bustling city centre into an empty & unoccupied area due to the vast amount of retail withdrawing from the city.
We ask if the Government would look at reducing the VAT rate to 5% for the retail sector, to allow the high street to recover and flurish once again.
